In this composition, the tabletop is treated as a theatre of memory, where a “held breath” serves as the primary narrative force. The three dolls perched upon their red pedestal are not merely objects, but silent witnesses to a story that remains purposefully unvoiced and hidden within the stillness. By juxtaposing the static, wooden forms of the dolls with the tools of my own practice—brushes and a glass sphere—I explore the friction between the act of creation and the weight of the past. The structural influence of Cézanne and the atmospheric perspectives of Hiroshige provide a framework for a work that is ultimately born of imagination and introspection. The translated haiku acts as a linguistic anchor, reinforcing the sense of a moment suspended in time. This piece invites a slow reading, encouraging the viewer to seek the histories tucked away within the quiet, chromatic harmony of the scene.
